7/18/17 - The Colt Ace is a firearm that was designed to allow inexpensive and low-recoil practice while maintaining the feel of the military model 1911 pistol.  While the Colt 1911 was chambered in the powerful .45 ACP cartridge, the externally similar Colt Ace was chambered for the far less powerful .22 LR cartridge. Accordingly, military, police, or civilian shooters could shoot the Ace without the recoil and expense of the 1911, but with similar ergonomics, recoil and sight picture.  This particular Colt Ace is especially interesting in that it has no serial number, and appears to be missing some of the smaller factory proofs that are usually found on these pistols.  We got this piece from the family of the vet who brought it back, and the best guess is that this gun was put together from parts at the time.  The finish is maybe 80-85%, as much of the finish on the straps has worn off.  The pistol dates to somewhere in the 1935-37 range based on the placement of the rampant Colt on the slide.  Pistol comes as a full rig, with two correct magazines and what I believe is a correct holster.  The holster is marked 'Audley' on back, with a 1914 patent date.  Mirror bore.
