SOLD - Walther P.38 - Commercial Mod HP, Nazi Proofed

3/20/17 -  This is a somewhat rare variation as it is a late war (1944 I believe) made for the commercial market, but diverted to the military - see waffen 359 proof on right side.   When the metal is the typical late war, it is also very nicely finished.  These guns also all have the distinct plum color to them which is unique to the late war ModHP's.   I'm told it is due to the variations in heat treatment during the bluing process.   Whatever the reason all of the HP's in this serial range and the same odd coloring.   Some more so than others and this one is very distinct on the slide and frame.   Barrel is bluer giving the gun a dual tone look.   The grips are correct for a late war Walther, and the magazine is late war "U" marked and not waffen proofed (commercial mag).   All matching numbers including the slide, frame and locking block.   The original finish is 97-98% (Excellent) and the bore is shiny and bright indicating little use.   A very fine collectible P.38 that is getting tougher to find.
