7/17/17 - This is a rare and desirable 1911 Colt that was part of the 1939 Navy contract that saw about 3,600 pistols sent to the Naval Operating Base.  This one was manufactured in November and shipped in December of that year.  It has the correct small 'G' Colt barrel, and the frame bears the R in oval inspection mark of Major Charles Reed.  This piece has been professionally restored, and is in excellent condition as a result.  In original condition, these can easily go for $12,000-15,000 at auction.  This one comes with the Colt Factory letter which details where the pistol was shipped and when.  There were 1,088 guns in of this type in that shipment.  The bore is very good, with decent rifling but a little frosting.  Magazine is 'A' marked on the lip.
