7/17/18 - This is an original WW2 production nazi SA Presentation pistol. The serial number on the pistol is proper for SA inscribed PPs. This one is somewhat unique because it is inscribed on the back strap and roughly translates to "To my fellow Comrades. In honor of the events on 8/1/1938." This would have been from the group leader - a gift he gave fellow SA members. We're not sure what events or rally this inscription is referring to. The SA (and nazi party) had rallies and competitions several times throughout each year and in several locations. The largest known rally was in Nurnberg during September 1938.  But some research indicates it could be a presentation surrounding the merger 2 provinces forming the SA Gruppe Schliesen in 1938. No solid proof on this however.  It is however a period correct SA presentation piece.  The finish on this pistol is all original and correct - we rate at about 94% with honest wear on the slide and frame. The slide has bluing loss on the edges and the right side has a line of bluing loss running through the ejection port (as shown in photos). The frame has some front and back strap wear but none of this is excessive.  Included with this pistol is a letter from James Rankin verifying this (this letter came with the pistol). The gun is one of a kind although we've had/seen other similarly inscribed Walthers. At some point (most likely near the end of the war) this pistol was captured by a British soldier as confirmed by the British proofs. The pistol then obviously made it's way here to the US. Most likely before 1986 as there are no import proof stamps.
