4/21/23 - This is a nice example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 revolver issued to the US military in 1918. It is all matching, has a "United States Property" marking on the underside of the barrel, and has the proper flaming bomb and "Eagle Head" military acceptance proofs. The gun comes as a full rig with a nice 1942-dated Textan leather holster and a 1942-dated canvas belt. The gun fits into the holster like a glove. The gun has retained roughly 85% of its original high polish bluing. The majority of the finish loss comes in the form of scratchy wear on both sides of the barrel. There is also spotty wear on the top strap, high edges of the cylinder, and on the underside of the trigger guard. Scratchy wear on both grip straps. There are light scratches and handling marks on most surfaces of the gun. A noticeable ding on the trigger guard. Roll mark on the cylinder. The cylinder is tight, and the action is smooth. Comes with period-correct wood grips that are not numbered. There is a chip in the bottom corner of the right panel and a tiny chip at the top of the left panel. The rifling in the bore is a little worn with pin-pricking throughout and one area of freckling.
