10/8/21 - This is a nice example of a very interesting put-together P.38. We call it a "trifecta" P.38 because all three major P.38 makers are represented here - it has a Walther frame, a Mauser slide, and a Spreewerk barrel. The gun is all matching (except for the locking block which is un-numbered), put together from parts, and was numbered to match after the gun was assembled. The slide is dated 1944. The left side of the frame has an "ac" Walther factory code. The slide has a "byf" Mauser factory code and one "Waffen 135" Mauser inspection proof on the right side of the slide. The left side of the barrel has a "cyq" Spreewerk factory code and an "Eagle 88" Spreewerk inspector proof. The front sight is painted red. The gun has retained roughly 80% of its finish. Most of the finish loss is on the front strap, but there is splotchy discoloration on the whole underside of the frame. There is wear on the high edges of the slide and around the muzzle. A few light streaks of wear on the top of the barrel through the ejection port. There are a couple of small areas of light pitting on the right side of the slide. Areas of light spotty oxidation here and there throughout. It comes with excellent reddish grips and a nice jvd magazine that has non-matching post-war numbering on the base. The bore has good rifling with minor pin-pricking throughout. The de-cocker is not functional.
