5/12/23 - This is an original WW1 era production Prussian Infantry Pickelhaube. The helmet features a black lacquered leather exterior with some surface wrinkling and cracking. This is mostly surface wear, including a few small scuffs, as shown. The front rounded visor has a non-magnetic brass rim. The stitching is all present and original, and the front and back brims are secure. The front eagle plate is a standard Prussian eagle with inscription "Mitt Gott Fur Koenig und Vaterland". Great condition with normal surface patina. The top spike is standard infantry brass and non-removable, with a circular base and 4 mounting rivets. The circular base is the only non-brass magnetic metal throughout this example. The back spine is intact as well with no notable issues. The original leather chinstrap is still attached and completely intact with surface aging throughout but no breaks or rips. The cockades on each side of the helmet are present, but loose and fall out if the chin strap is moved. The original interior leather liner is intact and in excellent condition as shown. The back visor is depot ink stamped and size ink stamped, 56. The interior crown has a 1915 ink stamp, and a circular maker stamp still visible, as shown.
