First thing’s first for the PPK! Step Number 1 for Disassembly

First thing’s first for the PPK! Step Number 1 for Disassembly

Hello and welcome to another takedown video by Legacy Collectibles. I'm Kurt and today I'm going to show you how to take apart a Walther PPK.

The first thing you want to do when taking apart a PPK is pull down on the trigger guard. As you see here, the forward part of the trigger guard separates from the frame of the gun. In order to remove the slide from the frame, you need to keep this separation between the trigger guard and the frame. We recommend using a business card, credit card, or something that can maintain this separation while freeing up your hands and also protecting the finish on your gun.

Once the card is in place you want to pull back on the slide and then also lift up. Start lifting up when the slide is all the way back. This might take a little finagling but if you apply enough pressure pulling back on the slide and then begin to lift up, you'll find the slide easily slides forward and removes from the frame.

Disassembly Step Number 3

Disassembly Step Number 3

Now that your gun is apart you can see the internals of both the slide and the frame. It's important to note that if removed the mainspring needs to be placed back onto the barrel the same way it was when you took the gun apart.

Important to Note about Getting your Gun Back Together

You won't be able to get your gun back together if the mainspring has been flipped around.

It's also important to note that on most PPKs the interior of the slide has the last three digits of the serial number lightly etched into the metal. It's hard to find with the naked eye and even harder to show on camera but this gun has the last three digits, 3 3 9, etched into the slide. You'll then find that these are the same three digits found on the frame of the gun.

Step Number 4 for Disassembly

To remove the slide from the frame, the magazine can remain in the gun.

Reassembly Step Number 1

However, when putting the gun back together the magazine needs to be removed. Line the mainspring up with the muzzle of the slide.

Once this is lined up pull all the way back and with a little finesse you should be able to get the slide to line back up with the frame of the gun.

Now your gun is completely back together, you can put the magazine back in and you're done. Remove your business card and you're back to square one.
