8/26/19 - This is an extremely rare and desirable engraved Walther PPK from the early Nazi era. I would doubt there were more than a dozen of these ever made and this is the only one I have ever seen. A bit of research into this gun revealed the following information: it was made by Walther in 1932 (one of the earliest known PPKs) At the time Walther was "partnering" with Stahl and Berger, a high end Retailer in Hamburg Germany in the 20s and 30s. Their specialty was custom engraved shotguns for the aristocrats of Germany. It is known that they ordered guns from Walther that were unfinished and then custom engraved and finished them for their exclusive clientele. This gun was specially engraved and they hand made the wooden, one-piece grip. The grip has hairline crack on each side in about the same spot. Then the gun was given a case-hardened finish, similar to what was done to their shotguns. When you turn the gun upside down you can best see the case hardening on the underside of the frame. The gun has no firing proofs on the slide or ejection port, but does on the frame and barrel. The barrel is made of stainless steel which was experimental at the time. The safety lever has a nice fire blue finish. The original magazine has an engraved bottom. The style of engraving is floral. Again, this is a nearly one of a kind and original engraved PPK.
