7/12/19 - This is an exceptional example of a seldom seen Colt M203 Grenade Launcher. This specific model was originally designed in the late 1960s/early 1970s and was specifically intended to replace the standard M79 single barrel grenade launcher that was used throughout Vietnam. It is a fully transferable, Class III item. These were originally designed to attach directly to the barrel of the M16A1 rifle and used a specially designed square handguard, along with a side mounted folding grenade launcher sight. It was intended to provide a single weapon system that was capable of both fully automatic rifle fire along with a grenade launcher capability all in one weapon. As noted, they used a folding sight that was mounted to the carrying handle which could provide aimed, effective fire for up to 400 meters. It proved to be a very effective weapon that has been in use by the U.S. Military (Army, Navy USMC, and AF) for the last 45 plus years. This launcher is chambered for 40mm rounds, and this listing includes a case of M781 practice chalk grenades ($150-250 retail), as well as two rare buckshot cartridges that are near impossible to find and retail for multiple hundreds of dollars each. Also included is an original operations manual, and the blue plastic sleeve the gun originally shipped in, which is serialized to the firearm. The launcher itself is in pristine condition with minimal usage in its lifetime. It features a Troy made rail and front grip, with Knight's Armament standalone buttstock module. This unique product from KAC was inspired by the utility and accuracy of the combat proven 40mm M79 Grenade Launcher. The effective M79 has since been replaced by the M203 grenade launcher with under mount adapter quick attachment to M4/M16 rifles. In the same manner, the Stand Alone Buttstock Module can accept either the M203 grenade launcher or the Masterkey 12 gauge shotgun, providing military leaders a useful option when tailoring a weapons mix to suit combat conditions. Picatinny rails on both sides and along the top surface of the Buttstock Module provide sight mounting options to accommodate right- and left-hand shooters.
