10/1/20 - This is a nice example of a Remington Mark III signal pistol rig. The pistol rig comes with a green canvas holster. Made by the Remington Arms Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut between 1915 and 1918, this large pistol is a single-shot flare gun used by the US Navy for signaling prior to World War One. One of some 24,500 units manufactured by the firm, the pistol was also adopted by the US Army during WW1 but never used in operations. This particular pistol is in nice condition - The bluing on the barrel is mostly in tact, but there are areas of light pitting throughout and some dark brown patina showing through. Also some spotty discoloration on the barrel and here and there on the brass frame. There are dings on the right side of the frame. Very nice grips. The pistol is functional and matching. The bore is nice with areas of very light pitting. Since the gun fires flares AND 10 GA shells, an FFL or C&R is required.
