1/14/19 - This was the first and only bolt-action rifle to be tested by the U.S. military. Only about 1100 of these were ever made, none with serial numbers. They were made by Ward & Burton with a "new" design - bolt action. They made only one batch for the U.S. military to test in hopes to win a military contract. The soldiers found the action awkward as they weren't accustomed to bolt action, so the military never moved forward with production. Fires a .50 cartridge. Made by Springfield and is marked on the receiver as such. Functional safety and mechanically sound. There is patina throughout the finish as shown in photos, we still consider this to be great shape considering its' age. The bore is a 7/10 which is excellent for its' age. Rifling in tact with some patina in the grooves. There is one 3inch long crack on the left side of the stock. This is 12 inches from the muzzle on the left side of the rifle. Otherwise the wood is in excellent condition. Guaranteed all original.
