8/15/18 - This is one of only 5,000 Model 1898 carbines were manufactured by Springfield Armory. This is the predecessor to the famous model 1903 Springfield. The carbine model 1898 has a saddle ring on the left side, which is rare and desirable. The bolt action is smooth and the rifle is fully functional. The metal receiver has light surface wear and beginning signs of rust throughout. This is normal patina for these antique guns. The bluing is in better condition on the barrel, but there still is light patina and browning throughout. The trigger guard also displays wear and signs of rust starting. The bore is about a 7 out of 10 with good rifling, but what appears to be spotty wear and residue throughout (this is fairly light, not severe). The wood is in great condition, but there is one small cracks where the receiver meets the upper wood. There is a set of cleaning rods and an oiler within the stock. Guaranteed original and authentic - this rifle is an antique , so no license required!
