9/1/17 - This is a near new condition Mauser Broomhandle "Red 9" Pistol, made at the end of WWI and chambered in a desirable 9mm PARA caliber. This particular gun was made right after the Prussian contract Red 9s, around 1917,and was a private purchase gun by a German Army officer.   The officer's initials are tastefully engraved on the right side of the receiver and the address(or the unit) on the left. The gun retains nearly all of its original blue, with about 99% remaining, with just a hint of edge wear. The bore is excellent, as are the original serial numbered grips. The gun is all matching, including the internal parts and a matching shoulder stock. Almost all of the fire blue is present on the extractor, safety, rear sight cursor and the bolt stop. The stock is in comparably excellent condition, with no cracks, and is matching to the gun. It does not appear that the gun was fired at all after leaving the factory. Mauser Broomhandles were very popular among British officers, prior to WWI, as an obvious upgrade to an issued handgun. It is very rare to see a C96 Mauser purchased by German Officer during WWI, as most were procured by the German Army with very few available through private channels, and this is a first such weapon that we have come across. It would be interesting to research the address/unit marking engraved on this pistol.
