1/10/25 - This is a rare and early Ainsworth-inspected Colt Cavalry Single Action revolver from 1874. This example is accompanied by a letter from John Kopec, author and historian known for his Colt Single Action expertise. The letter posits that this example was likely issued to the 8th Cavalry, and thus an Indian Wars revolver. All numbers match, including the cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The finish is original but obviously worn throughout. Kopec states the grips appear to be original, as well. The bore has pronounced rifling but notable frost and is dark/dirty.
