7/25/17 - This is an example of the First Contract Model 1906 DWM Luger pistol that was produced for the "Royal Portuguese Navy". This was the original contract model made before 1910 when the Republic of Portugal was established. It is estimated that a total of only 1,000 were produced, however the highest known serial number to date is 769. The top of the chamber is marked with the large "Portuguese Crown over a single fouled "Naval Anchor" with the "DWM" logo on the front toggle. This first model has the earlier 1906 style frame with grip safety, no stock lug, with the correct polished lower safety area (with no markings). The lower left side of the barrel extension is also correctly stamped with the Portuguese proof of "MP", with no other inspection or acceptance proofs. As noted this model is numbered in the correct commercial manner, with no letter suffix. It has the standard commercial finish and rates at about 95% with most of the wear on the sideplate and barrel.  It is a rough finish but doesn't have much actual bluing loss.  Decent amount of patina on the straps.  Postwar mag.  Bore is a little frosted but should shoot just fine.
