8/20/20 - This is a great example of a very rare variation Spreewerke P.38 put together from Parts from THREE different factories, yet all matching ! The frame is Spreewerke and a very late war 0 prefix serial number. It also has an FN slide (Belgian factory) as evidenced by the slide being marked with the large "AC44". In addition, the barrel is FNH marked from the Czech factory. Apparently, there were less than 500 of this specific variation produced. The finish rates between 90-95%, but likely was Russian dipped, which is very common for these end of war guns as it was likely captured by the Russians at or near the factory in 1945. The profile of the gun is minty. Most of the finish loss is just thinning on the front strap. After the war, the gun was reworked at the Thalmann factory for the East German military or police as there is a Thalmann wreath (company logo) on the frame that is partially peened off. The slide has the correct "M" and "U" acceptance stamps. The dark bakelite grips are in excellent condition. It comes with a Mauser magazine that has been numbered to match the gun, most likely as part of its Thalmann re-work. The bore has decent rifling, but there is minor frosting throughout. These are NO import marks so not sure when or how it came to the US, but if this RARE P38 could talk......
