6/4/19 - WW2 Swift British RAF Training Rifle - with Original Case This is an original WW2 Swift British RAF Training Rifle. This particular example was made in 1943. For a full description, please copy and paste the link below to watch our YouTube video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyABVQuPwV0 This rifle was given to the R.A.F. soldiers to train them how to properly use a bolt action, keep the rifle tight against their shoulder, and how to use the iron sights to aim. After you cock the rifle and pull the trigger, a sharp pin shoots out of the muzzle. This pin would have marked the paper target and indicate how accurate the aim was. This particular gun is in excellent shape. We'd rate the bluing on the metal parts ~95%. Most of the finish loss is on the bolt, but there is minor high edge wear in a few areas and scuffing on the front sight. The wood stock is excellent and appears to be original. There are no major chips or scratches. The numbers "455" are stamped clearly on the stock. Our understanding is that this represents the unit number. The action is smooth and it functions properly. The butt plate is operable and the butt plate pin is in tact. The gun also comes in the original shipping crate. It is marked "R.A.F." on the outside and has the original Training Rifle diagram on the inside (labeled 1943). The diagram is in decent shape but is water stained. It reads "Mark III". Most of the original felt liner is in tact except for on one of the wooden stupports. The box is generally in good shape except for some minor chips in the wood on the inside and more significant chips in the wood on the outside throughout (see photos). The crate also has the original shipping label and tag, although the label is not legible and about 30% of it is torn. The original handle to the crate is included, but is removed as it appears someone modified it and replaced the original handle with a metal band. It appears the side panels of the case may have been replaced as they are not painted. The listing also includes a few printouts of the original target, the rifle training apparatus, and aiming guide. No FFL required.
