8/31/17 - This is an original WW2 era production Winchester model 12 shotgun that has been parkerized and reworked at the Mount Rainier Arsenal for use in Vietnam post WW2. The trench gun is in MINT condition, as if it just left the arsenal. According to Canfield's book, Winchester records indicate they sold the government over 60k model 12 shotguns from April 1942 to March 1944 between serial numbers 939500 - 1036000. This shotgun falls at the end of that range. The right side of the receiver is U.S. stamped with a flaming bomb. The only other significant marking is the "M. R." stamped on the underside of the wood stock, which is a Mt. Rainier arsenal stamp. This is a collectible shotgun with a cool history going from WW2 to Vietnam. Guaranteed original.
