12/17/19 - This is an original 3rd variation zero series P.38 made in 1940, which was the first run of military P.38s. Rarely seen in such nice condition as these were used throughout the war - many sent to the Russian front. This pistol is all original and all numbered parts are matching , with the exception of the near matching magazine. It has that beautiful high polish finish only seen on these early guns. The magazine is correct, and close to matching at # 08018 but not serial numbered matching to the pistol. The magazine correctly has two proof stamps on the base. The pistol is in about 96% - 97% original condition finish with some edge wear on the slide and muzzle, along with a few light spots of thinning on the front strap. It has the proper eagle N proofs on the slide, frame, barrel and locking block. Each also has matching numbers. The grips are the correct early variation, and matching numbered to the pistol. When we purchased the gun, we believed the grip numbering to be original, but a couple forum numbers pointed out that the grips were likely renumbered. The '3' appears original but the '11' look added or modified. Overall a very nice gun with beautiful high polish finish. Strong, shiny bore with minor frost.
