3/3/18 - This is one of the rarest P.38 variations - a first variation zero series!  There were only 1,000 of this variation produced, and this one would make a very nice placeholder until a better one comes along (if one ever does).  These pistols are distinguished by their hidden extractor and rectangular firing pin.  This one is all matching except for the magazine, which is unnumbered.   Even the grips are numbered to the gun!  This would be a $10-12k gun if not for an issue with the finish.   The frame is all original finish - excellent front grip strap.   The barrel and the slide have about half original finish.  The "touch up" was not professionally done, but has you can see, it must have had some rust/pitting in a few places, which someone attempted to clean off and then cover with a cold blue or substance like it.   These areas are easy to see.  On the left side of the slide it is the forward half.  On the right side, there are only a few spots of touch up on the lower section.  The barrel has touch up on the top and front.  I'm sure it could be "cleaned up" MUCH better than it is now, but that can be a project for the next owner.  Small parts are properly waffen proofed.  Also, stamps on the frame and slide are all original and crisp.  Functions well, including the de-cocker.  The bore does have corrosion in the grooves.
