3/22/19 - This is a very nice and rare piece. Of the approximately 2.5 million Lugers made, only 12,000 Simson Lugers were produced. However, this is an S toggle, or commonly called an S code and is one of the most rare Lugers. After the first 10,000 that were made the S codes appear, they are interspersed with Simson & Co Suhl marked toggles, but the S code had maybe 800 made - then this Simson, serial number 47a is a sear safety police, with perhaps 600 total produced. So the S code police is among the rarest of the rare. This Luger rates at about 90%, with some finish loss on the side plate, as well as having much of the grip strap finish having thinned and turned to a brown patina. It is all matching numbered parts including the grips. Every small part has an Eagle 6 proof all the way down to the grip screws! Only the magazine is non-matching, but it is a Simson magazine. This exact Simson was displayed as an example in Jan Still's Weimar Lugers, and subsequently shown as an example in Police Lugers by Tinker & Gruber. The pistol comes from Tinker's collection, and includes a signed letter from Tinker.
