SOLD - Rare Remington-UMC 1911 - Unnumbered & Uninspected
7/19/17 - This is a very rare Remington-UMC 1911 from 1919. While only 21,676 Remington-UMC pistols were accepted by the Ordnance Dept, at least 22 others were manufactured. In letters from the advisory enigineer at Remington-UMC, he acknowledges that a small number of pistols slipped through without being numbered, or with duplicate serial numbers. "Any pistols discovered by the inspector which did not bear a serial number would not have passed final inspection. Having thus been rejected, they would not have had inspectors markings applied." This pistol has no serial number, only marked 'R' in the place of the serial on the right side of the frame. It also has no inspector's mark, as explained above. The frame is marked 'E' on the trigger guard and butt, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marked, as well. Barrel is marked 'P' on the ejection port. Excellent bore. Two-tone mag with no markings.
