10/25/18 - This is a rare "ax" code k98 rifle manufactured by Feinmechanische Werke in 1941. It is estimated that fewer than 1% of K98s received this code. In mid 1940 the "27" code of Erma was replaced by the "ax" code of Feinmechansiche Werke. It is estimated that approximately 150,000 K98 rifles were produced in 1940 with both the "27/ax" code receiver markings, however the "ax" code k98 rifles are much rarer. The top of the receiver ring is marked "ax / 41", the right side is marked with three "eagle/280" Waffenamt proofs and the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The rifle has all milled parts, most are proofed and the visible serial numbers match. Excellent stock that is original and internally numbered to the gun, including the hand guard. Excellent bore. Comes with sight hood and cleaning rod.
