11/20/19 - This is probably the finest example we've encountered of a rare military/commercial variation of the Colt 1911A1 from 1943. The more commonly cited examples feature commercial serial numbers that are peened or bunged and replaced with a military serial. There were about 6,500 or so of those produced, but the example listed above is a less commonly seen variant with military serial, military inspection proofs, but commercial slide with the matching serial to the frame. This example is very close in serial to documented examples from Meadows' book on Colt military automatic pistols. This pistol has about 98-99% of the original parkerized finish remaining, and finding a finer example would be difficult. It has the GHD inspection proof on frame, as well as P proofs on slide and frame. Correct Colt barrel with large 'G' proof under lug. Excellent bore and grips. Commercial mag marked 'COLT .45 AUTO' on the bottom.
