2/28/19 - This is the most sought after and extremely desirable variation of US military Model 12 shotgun - a late war, factory parkerized, trench gun. Very few of these guns were made in 1944-1945 and all cluster around the same serial range of 1031xxx to 1035xxx serial range and this one falls smack in the middle. These guns were very different from the early and mid war Winchester trench shotguns that were made from the existing stock of commercial shotguns and sported a high polish commercial blue finish. In the end of the war, Winchester decided to forego the aesthetics in the name of expediency, and produced guns that had visible file and machine marks, a thin parkerized finish, and appeared to be cobbled up from any parts Winchester had on hand - as a result all of these guns had a part or two that were actually blued. This particular example has all of the above characteristics, including a blued magazine tube, a thinly blued barrel extension and a plain channel on top of the receiver. The remainder of the parts are factory parkerized. All the cartouches are present in all the right places and are original. The wood and metal are in great shape but show some wear that you would expect from a late war gun. All in all, a great example of a scarce trench shotgun with US property markings and WWII history. One can search for many years before finding another one like it.
