7/24/19 - This is a nice Mauser K98 that was manufactured early in 1944, as evidenced by no suffix and a three digit serial. The receiver is coded 'byf 44', and all numbered parts are matching. The metal surfaces show general thinning to the original blue but no major areas of wear or corrosion. The stock does show a repaired crack on the left side, though in an inconsequential area that wouldn't affect structural integrity. It appears the rifle then received a layer of lacquer, hence the shininess and the blurred waffenamts. Original cleaning rod, sight hood and sling are present. Buttplate is marked 'gqm 43'. The bore is excellent and shiny except near the muzzle, where it must not have been cleaning properly and there is minor pitting nearby.
