7/3/19 - This is an exceptional example of a J.P. Sauer & Sohn drilling, but it's a bit of a head scratcher. It must be a rare variant as it has E/N proofs in several areas and is dated to August of 1944. We all know of the Luftwaffe Drillings made earlier in the war and marked for the branch, but this one only bears the Nazi firing proofs and the date. So, why did Sauer make a high quality drilling near the end of the war when they were losing, running out of supplies and couldn't keep up with production? Best guess is that it would've been a special order from a high ranking Nazi official. The barrel and blued parts rate at 98-99% with just a couple small hints of wear on the underside and near the muzzle. The receiver shows beautiful case hardening with minor wear on the areas around the wrist. The stock is in fantastic condition - not sure we've seen better. Nearly perfect bores. All matching and original except the rubber butt plate, which would have to be a replacement. Original Sauer butt plates do show up on Ebay and parts websites from time to time.
