10/2/20 - This is an interesting and complete Mauser C96 Broomhandle rig with an original stock, unit marking on front of magazine well, harness and cleaning rod. The pistol has all original finish with a fair amount of thinning on the barrel from the stock and more on the mag well and grip frame. Small parts still retain most of the beautiful fire blue. Both the original grips are matching numbered to the gun. The stock is period original but mismatched to the pistol. The unit marking on the frame reads "Lw.R.82.Mg", which is the 82nd Landwehr Infantry Regiment. That unit fought against the American Expeditionary Forces in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel, which is potentially where this gun was captured. Our consignor bought this gun in the 1970s directly from the vet that brought it back, and it has been in his possession ever since. Its sister pistol is also listed now, likely made in the factory on the same day over 100 years ago. The vet that captured this one was named Alex Kurmes and he was a medic. The harness on this gun is 1918 dated and in very good condition aside from the hole in the bottom of the cleaning rod pouch.
