5/16/18 - This is a very nice M1860 light Union Cavalry sabre that was made by Providence Tool Company for use during the Civil War. It was made in early 1862 and is dated as such. This manufacturer is one of the more scarce makers with only a 10,000 sword contract. 1862 was the first year that these were issued, replacing the much heavier M1840, aka "wrist breaker". This sword is in excellent condition given its age, with no especially notable flaws aside from standard age to the finish and scabbard, as well as various dings on the handle.
