9/5/18 - This is an original, late Muromachi period Katana with a Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords (NBTHK) Nihonto Origami (Japanese Sword Authentication Paper). The "Yellow Paper" certificate, dated 26 May 2014, is from the current rating system (1982 - Present) and grades the blade as Hozon (Worthy of Preservation). The Nagato (tang) is signed by maker "Kanetsune." He worked exclusively in Mino Province between 1573 and 1592. Kanetsune is included in Fujishiro's Nihon Toko Jiten (published in 1935) which rates 1,500 swordsmiths; his work is evaluated as Chu-jo saku (Superior Medium Made or Above Average). The workmanship exhibited in this Katana is exceptional; the blade has a long cutting edge of 67.6 cm / 26.6 inches. The Hamon (tempered cutting edge) is Sugu Midare (straight with irregular edge). The blade is housed in a traditional wooden storage scabbard (Shirasaya). The original yellow paper, along with additional documents are included. This came from the Rick Ricupero collection. Guaranteed original and authentic.
