8/26/19 - This is a gorgeous and very interesting Walther PP from the Nazi era. It is an SS contract Walther PP with the original, matching magazine, and is in the proper serial range. It was then likely custom engraved following the war, though the work was clearly done by as a respected professional as the lines and design are high quality. There are three possible explanations for the engraving on this pistol. It could have been issued to an SS officer, who then decided to have it engraved. From the video we have included above, we know this was possible for him to have an engraved gun. Or, it was captured by a GI who stayed in Germany after the war and he decided to have it engraved. Or finally, it was brought home and engraved here in the US at some point. We believe the first two options are most likely due to the fact that the style and quality of the engraving is just like those done by factory engravers. It is known that the engravers from Walther did work for the GI's after the war as some of them had their names engraved on the guns. There was even one engraved for General Patton at wars end. The actual "story" behind this gun may be lost to history, but what we know for sure is that it is a real SS contract gun with beautiful Germanic style engraving. The pistol shows no bluing loss, but there is some minor pitting in the slide legend. All external surfaces are beautifully engraved, including the magazine baseplate. Nice, original grips, though there is a surface crack in the left panel. Minty bore.
