10/21/20 - This is a post U.S. Revolutionary War cavalry saber. It is a Model 1810 crafted by Connecticut native Nathan Starr. These sabers were ordered by the U.S. Army cavalry during the War of 1812 and thereafter. The hilt of the saber is marked 'P' and 'HHP' which is believed to be the inspector proof. The blade is in excellent condition considering its ager. Many of these sabers still in existence are rusted and very badly damaged. The photos show that this unique item is not. The handle is wood and the scabbard has some original black paint remaining.
