9/28/17 - This is an original WW2 production K98 sniper rifle. The rifle was produced in 1938 and is dated along with a "42" code on the receiver, which is a Mauser production code. The receiver and bolt of this rifle is all matching and correct with minimal wear. There is some surface patina but no notable flaws. The barrel has a little more discoloration as the metal gets closer to the muzzle, where there is a high-end fight sight and barrel cover. This is most likely original to the gun because of how the wear on the cover matches the wear on the muzzle area. It also makes sense that a sniper would want this type of cover for their front sight and barrel. The scope itself is in excellent condition with some browning wear throughout the high polish blued finish. The rear lens has a phosphated finish which is unique. Appears all original and correct. The optics are crystal clear and the reticle is crisp. The scope mount is serial numbered to the gun, and we speculate that this isn't correct, as the scopes were made in different factories than the guns. However, the font is very close, if not exact to the WW2 German style. Also, the mount fits the wood stock perfectly and there are no signs of tampering. This could very well be the original scope that was issued with this sniper rifle. The stock is lightly sanded, and there is some minor wood chewing at the lower end of the butt plate. Overall the stock is in great shape with no major issues though. There are multiple eagle/63 eagle proof stamps on the side and underside of the wood. (Two underside and Two on the side of the stock, with one additional eagle-only stamp on the side of the stock.) The parts are all matching, correct, and original guaranteed.
