4/23/20 - This is a Colt M1911A1 that was manufactured in 1938. The production total for the year totaled at fewer than 1,300 and is the lowest military production total for any year of the 1911A1. The pistol was re-worked by Rock Island Arsenal at some point, as indicated by the RIA proof on the right side of the frame, and the Springfield flaming bomb is also present. It would've been parkerized in the process, as you can see from the photos. The gun has matching frame and slide, though the first digit on the slide is double stamped. Photo is included so take a look for yourself. Colt barrel with large 'G' is present. Frame has 'P' on left side frame and on the slide. The frame correctly does not have an inspector's initials on it, as this practice was not done in 1938 or 1939. The 'H' proof on the left side of the frame is also correct, and indicates final inspection by Frederick Hauff. 'S' marked magazine. Excellent grips with the reinforced backing. Bore is shiny with only minor freckling.
