7/2/21 - This is an excellent example of a scarce Danzig Karabiner 98 AZ issued to the Imperial German Army in 1918. It is mostly mismatched, but has the proper Imperial proofs throughout. It also has a "1920" stamp on the receiver and on the stock. This is a government property mark that indicated the gun remained in government service after the war. This was required by Germany to comply with the Treaty of Versailles. The metal parts are excellent as the gun has been refinished. The stock is numbered and Imperial-proofed, but mismatched to the gun. There are dings, dents, and scratches throughout. Some areas of light scratching that indicate the gun may have been very lightly sanded. The bore is very nice - shiny with strong rifling with minor frosting in the grooves.
