2/12/21 - This is a nice example of a Birmingham Small Arms SHT LE No. 1 Mk III Rifle, issued to the British military during WW1. There are British proofs throughout. G.R. marking with a crown stands for George Rex, referencing King George V. This rifle also retains its original magazine cutoff. This feature, which allows for the loading of single rounds in the chamber while keeping the 10 rounds in the magazine untouched, was eventually eliminated from all of these rifles entirely as being unnecessary, so finding an example that still has one intact is uncommon. The metal parts have retained most of their finish, but there are areas of spotty thinning and patina throughout. The stock is nice, but there are two small repairs in front of the receiver and the handguard looks like it was cut at some point. It also looks lightly sanded. The bore has decent rifling but there is oxidation throughout.
