5/2/18 - This is an excellent condition 1916 dated DWM Luger with the rarest and the most desirable Imperial unit Marking: M.G. S.S. ABT. 8 2K 6. This stands for MachinenGewehr Scharf Shtutzen Abteilung 8, Kompagnie 2, weapon 6 - a Sharp Shooter Machine gun company. According to Jan Still, these were elite machine gun companies that received specialized training and were considered to be the best crack troops on the German side during WWI. Only a handful of guns with this rare unit marking have ever been reported, all dated 1916 and all from the same regiment. This particular gun remains in excellent original condition with about 95% of its original blue present. It is all matching except the magazine, which is only a few hundred digits off the gun’s serial number with the same M suffix. The bore and grips are excellent as well. Original holster is dated 1916, and has the unit depot marking and a maker mark under the flap. It is in excellent condition. This is probably the rarest unit marked WWI Luger that one can come across.
