10/24/18 - This is a rare and desirable 1916 DWM Luger with Deathshead unit mark over the chamber. The gun was originally made in 1916 for German Army issue (WW1). Then on the right side of the receiver, following the Imperial proofs you can see a Nazi re-work stamp. (Eagle GW3). These were most likely reworked during the Weimar period as Mauser production had not ramped up yet. The Deathshead marking is thought to be like a unit mark that tank crews and / or the Freikorps Units were known to use. Also, in the K98 world, the Nazi rework stamp and similar deathshead marking is attributed to early SS units. There is no real consensus on the meaning of this markings, so we will just present this as a Rare Deathshead marked luger of unknown origin. The Nazi marking AND the Deathshead marking are (in our opinion) real and most likely applied in the Weimar or early Nazi period (mid 1930's) . The gun has original finish (from time of re-work) and all matching, including the grips and magazine. The finish and magazine most likely date back to the time of re-work. Finish rates at 93-95% with high edge wear and areas of browning along the top and right side of the receiver. Small parts still show some straw. Bore has good rifling but frost throughout.
