8/24/18 - This is an original Gewehr 98 made by Mauser in 1906. This early German rifle is in excellent condition considering its' age. The rifle comes with an original leather receiver cover, sling (unmarked, but appears period correct), cleaning rod, and bayonet with leather frog and scabbard. The bayonet is made by WKC and is in great condition with some normal wear to the pommel, hand guard, but an excellent and clean blade. The leather scabbard and frog are both completely in tact, although they are clearly aged and have normal scuffing (especially on the frog). The rifle itself is 100% all original and matching. The metal has a brown patina throughout, which is to be expected, but gives this piece an original, historical look. You can tell right away this piece is all authentic from the patina. There is no serious rust or pitting - as shown in photos. The stock is in all original, beautiful configuration as well. DRP stamped on the left side, as well as in the sling well of the stock. The bore is worn throughout, obviously from aging and corrosive ammo, but the rifling is still in tact and there are strong grooves. Overall the bore is a 5 out of 10. Smooth action, and guaranteed all original.
