8/13/21 - This is a very cool, unique grouping of a German Kriegsmarine Battle Flag, with documents unrelated to a similar flag. Walter Francis Donahue enlisted in 1943 and retired as a major in 1962. He was a bombardier aboard a B-24J Liberator. On Feb. 24th, 1944 his plane was shot down over Gotha, Germany. According to a unit history (included), the plane received a direct hit to the fuel tank. The plane fell down into high snow and the entire crew was captured. Donahue suffered a foot injury and was taken as a POW to Luft Stalag 1. He was released in May of 1945. He received a Purple Heart and an Air Medal. Included in the documents, postcards, and photos is a photo of Donahue holding a similar flag to the one included. The flag is in excellent condition. Also comes with a Ruptured Duck certificate of authenticity.
