7/17/18 - This is an original hand made Wakizashi blade by Sukeharu. Estimated date of production is 1675. There is a hand-applied inscription of "Settsu ju Sukeharu kore o tsukuru." on the blade under the handle (tang). The blade comes with the original holding wrap/cloth along with the storage scabbard and storage blade. The workmanship is exceptional with no forging flaws; the length of the cutting edge is 48.2 cm / 19 inches. The tempered cutting edge is the irregular wave pattern iwth tempered spots outside of the cutting edge in the form of the sun and moon. The handguard and other metal furniture date the same period. The fittings are most likely from a later time period. Comes with a "Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords" yellow authentication paper. The "yellow paper" certificate is from the current rating system put in place in 1982, and grades the blade as Hozon (meaning worthy of preservation). Guaranteed all original and authentic. We will ship in a protective soft case (worth keeping for preservation). Also included are additional documents and write-up from the 1990s when this was bought by a previous collector from an expert in Canada.
