9/3/24 - Manufactured in early 1915 (3-15 barrel date), this is an excellent example of an original U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903 Springfield bolt action NRA Sales rifle. These NRA Sales rifles were sold by the D.C.M. only to N.R.A. members in the 1913-1916 time frame. They were issued by both Springfield Armory and Rock Island Arsenal. Although not marked with the traditional "star" stamp, the barrels were air-gauged for bore quality to ensure they were the best available barrels for the target shooters. They are identified by the "N.R.A./Ordnance Shell and Flame" stamped on the forward section of the trigger guard to denote that they were sold through the D.C.M. to an N.R.A. member. Has the standard sights on a "S A/flaming bomb/3- 15" marked barrel with a stamped metal cover, and the receiver has the standard markings. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with grasping grooves, one reinforcing bolt, a boxed "J.S.A." cartouche on the left wrist, a circled script "P" proof on the underside of the wrist and a sharply checkered steel buttplate with trapdoor. The original bluing on the rifle is in good condition but does show some minor wear and patina on the receiver, muzzle, front band and trigger guard. Strong bore with minor frost in the grooves. Terrific stock with sharp markings and just a few scrapes/dings.
