1/30/18  - This is a very rare Simson Luger from the Weimar period.  This one is all matching except for the magazine, including every small part and the grips. It is a rare, no date variant, with about 90% original blue remaining.  The straps are thinning and there is some finish loss on the sideplate and left side of the barrel. The gun is completely correct and all the parts are correctly Simson proofed, including the screws.  It is photographed and documented on pages 164 & 165 of Ed Tinker's book on Simson lugers (see photos).  The grips are Simson proofed and numbered to the gun.  Due to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, Simson was the only company authorized to produce and overhaul arms for the Weimar era German army. They started to manufacture Lugers in 1925, using equipment obtained from the old Erfurt arsenal. They are rare today because the need for new equipment in the Wiemar era was not large, and the company was nationalized in 1933 when the Nazis came to power.  The bore has some freckling and frosting, but is still decent overall.
