7/24/20 - This is a very rare Steyr G.29/40 that was issued to the German Navy, as indicated by the Eagle/M proof on stock. The G29/40 was a Kar.98k style rifle base around the Polish wz.29 Modell 98 rifle, and the rifles had many similarities and many of the parts could be used for production of Kar.98k rifles. They were assembled over a three year period, with about 12,500 made in 1940. The majority (about 38,000) were made in 1941 and the last 4,000 not until 1942. Most were delivered to the Kriegsmarine (German Navy), although many early rifles were delivered to the German Army. Trends research shows that almost all G29/40’s after the “a” block went to the Navy, and only about half of the earlier production went to the German Army. A total of 54,500 G29/40’s were made during the war, but many parts (components) were delivered to the Kriegsmarine and subsequently built into rifles by the Navy, these are rare in original condition. This example is all matching and original throughout, including stock, buttplate, full bolt assembly, full trigger group, and the bands. The finish doesn't show much actual bluing loss, but there is notable patina to the receiver and bolt assembly. The stock is in great shape with just a few standard dings and nicks. All markings are crisp and clear. Bore is shiny with strong rifling but there are a couple minor areas of freckling in the grooves. Comes with cleaning rod and sight hood.
