5/30/23 - This is a rare and minty Springfield Armory M1C designated sniper with the original CMP box and paperwork. The CMP paperwork documents the rifle with its M1C designated serial, which is the only way to be certain you are getting a real government-issued M1C. Developed in 1944, the M1C was the first production-level sniper variant of the M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle. While highly effective as a sniper weapon, the manufacturing process was rather involved, requiring a Springfield receiver to be selected off the production line before heat treating, shipped to Griffin & Howe for base installation, and then returned to the Armory to complete the process. While phased out of production in favor of the M1D, which could be produced in-house by Springfield using finished and surplus M1 rifles, the M1C saw sniper duty through Korea and into Vietnam. There were fewer than 8,000 M1Cs produced and only 4,000 issued. The listing includes the original box which is labeled from Camp Perry, as well as many of the extras in their original packaging and the CMP packaging also has the matching serial to the rifle. The rifle has an original M84 scope with a matching serialized mount to the rifle, and the rail is also serialized correctly to the gun. The scope is in terrific condition with clear optics. The rifle itself features a minty parkerized finish and appears to be nearly unused since it went to the arsenal.
