SOLD - RARE East German AB9 P.38 - Soviet Block
4/18/17 - Listed here is an AB9 marked P.38, manufactured by the East Germans just after 1950. It is one of the rarest known variations of P.38! They were newly manufactured, post war, possibly as a test in the "tooling up" process for large scale production. The known serial range is N1000 to N1120, with only 120 made, and this one falls in that proper range! Some of these pistols were made from new parts after the war, and some were put together using some old WWII parts. This pistol appears to be a mix, given the byf 43 proof on the slide, as well as the fact that the barrel has a Suhl (crown/N) proof on it. The Suhl proofs were only put on newly manufactured barrels at this time. The frame also appears to have been newly manufactured, as it has the Suhl proof above the serial (Crown/U). The magazine has a serial electric pencilled on the base plate, but it does not match the serial of the pistol. The bottom of the right grip panel does have a chip in it, which we can replace if this is an issue for the buyer. The finish on this pistol is about 93-94%, with high edge wear, and a thin front strap that is showing patina as well. All in all, an extremely interesting and rare pistol that you likely will not see again any time soon!
