5/24/21 - This is a rare Mauser Luger from 1940 with Japanese markings along the top of the barrel, which have been translated to "German Type 14 Pistol". Not much is known about these Kanji marked Lugers, though nearly all other "accepted" examples are also 1940 dated. This one does not feature the chrysanthemum that was seen on a recent Rock Island sale with $16k strike price. It's all matching numbers throughout, including the right grip panel but not the left. Also has the original, factory numbered matching magazine. Hallock's book on Lugers does not provide much additional insight here, and these pistols are difficult to authenticate. While we have no reason to believe the markings are faked, we also cannot state they are original with certainty. Take a look at the photos and compare to the recent Rock Island sale.
