Most people only hear stories of Lugers this beautiful. We're honored to share this presentation factory engraved Kreighoff Luger. A very scarce piece from WW2, this P.08 would have been presented to someone of high importance. We've seen a lot of engraved or inscribed lugers, but ONLY Krieghoff made FACTORY ENGRAVED Lugers. DWM, Erfurt, Simson, and Mauser all had their pistols engraved or inscribed after they left the factory. Only TEN (10) Lugers EVER were engraved. UNBELIEVABLE! Some of these engraved pistols are photoed and described in "The Krieghoff Parabellum".

Super Rare and Beautifully Engraved Luger

Hey, guys. And welcome to another week-in Wednesday. I've got an exciting walk in today for you. Wait until you see this? What could possibly be in this case? Now, let me tease you a little bit. Open it. Oh, my. OK. I'm totally lying; this did not walk in. This came from the vault of a fellow collector friend of mine, and I just had to show it to you because it's really exciting. This is obviously an engraved luger. But before I show you more about this gun, let's talk a little bit about engraved lugers. You know, having been collecting for about 30 years now, I do see engraved Luger's from time to time. And I need to tell you; there are no factory engraved lugers.

Are there Factory Engraved Lugers?

There are no factory engraved lugers except for the Kreighoff. And I'll talk about that a little bit. You will find them inscribed and you will find them engraved, but they're not done in the factory. DWM made a lot during World War One. Mauser made a lot during World War 2. But they were not engraved. They made them for the German army, the German police, the Luftwaffe. They made them for specific reasons, but they were not engraved. That doesn't mean that certain groups of people or a squad would buy, you know the commander might buy ten lugers, have them engraved. A common engraving would be to my comrades and a date, and he might present one to each of his officers. But it was done post factory. So, if you are looking at an engraved Luger DWM, Erfurt, Simpson, Mouser. If you're looking at one and the person is saying, in fact, engraved, it is probably not. Now, I also have to show a little humility by saying I don't know everything we're learning all the time. We're collecting data. If you have an engraved gun and you want to send those pictures and talk about it, we'd be glad to render opinions. But the majority opinion of collectors and researches are there are no engraved lugers that were done in the factory.

Kreighoff is the Exception

However, Krieghoff is an exception. Krieghoff was actually a hunting buddy of Hermann Goring. Hermann Goring, you probably know, was the head of the Luftwaffe are good friends with Hitler, but he was also a good friend with Mr. Krieghoff. They were famous for shotguns. In fact, they're still in business. They still making great shotguns. They got a small contract to make a very small number of Luger's for the Luftwaffe. And because they already had engravers in their company, they made 10 engraved lugers. Ten out of the millions of Lugers that are out there, there's 10 that were factory engraved by Krieghoff. I guess I'm done teasing you now, so I'll go ahead and open this up.

Super Rare Kreighoff Presented: What an Honor!

Super Rare Kreighoff Presented What an Honor

This is the original case that comes with two matching mags. Let me take this guy out. Just so you know, approximate values are these can easily be over one hundred thousand dollars. I've seen several sales on auctions. They don't come up very often because once they go into a collection, they stay there. There is a book by Gibson about Kreighoffs, and he has out of the ten that were made, I think he has probably four or five. He's got the Serial Ranges. He's got this exact gun. This is the exact gun. And he's got several pages of other engraved Luger's here. So, of the ten knowns, we'd love to know where the other nine are. So, get in touch with us. But I just have to show that to you, something you probably will never see in person in your life. And I'm just honored to be able to handle this thing. Just a little bit of detail. This is according to the book. This is a platinum finish and then engraved, and it has an inscription on it. It's a Krieghoff front and it's dated the 15th of August 1939.

Hermann Goring gets a Gift

So, this was made in 1939. Who did this go to? Well, they were ordered by Hermann Goring from his good friend, Mr. Krieghoff. And it's theorized that these were given out to Luftwaffe aces. So, when you have these, all went to the Luftwaffe. And we believe they went to the Luftwaffe aces. There's no documentation from the factory. All the records had been destroyed, much like many of the other factories. The records are all destroyed. So, we don't know exactly who got this gun. But we theorize that it was a Luftwaffe ace.
