Nazi Party Leader Walther PPK Vinyl Presentation Case and Holster

Hey guys and welcome to a Corona special. In the old days, I used to call these quickies but I'm going to just be doing some really quick videos with almost no b-roll at all, just to get you some content. I know you all need some eye candy, if you're like me, you're stuck in the house looking for something new, so I'm going to show you something new. It's actually very, very cool. It came in a while ago, we'll call it…we’ll say it was a Wednesday, so we can call it a walk-in Wednesday. I had a guy… I'm turning around and getting it.

A Special Presentation Case

I had a guy who called me up and said I have a presentation case for a Walther PPK. No gun in it but I have a case. So I kind of…I said you mean a presentation case like they're made of leather and looks like this? I've shown these before, these are presentation cases from the World War II era or pre-war and I said... I described this and he goes no, it's kind of a vinyl. And I said well I guess you could mistake that for a vinyl. Go ahead and send it to me. He didn't have the ability to take pictures, but I said go ahead and send it to me that's what I'm used to in terms of a presentation case for a Walther PPK. This one happens to be engraved. I've done a few videos on it engraved so I won't bore you with that.

He sent this, he said it has a party leader eagle on the front, which I thought oh my gosh! I wonder if this is real. Now you can see that it is a vinyl case and it's professionally made. So it wasn't like somebody… I get sometimes cases that people make out of wood and they hand carve it. This was professionally made, I've never seen another one, this is the only one I've ever seen. If anybody's seen one let me know.

The Germans Experimented with Vinyl

But when I saw the vinyl case it reminded me that the Germans did experiment with vinyl, this was like revolutionary at the time, it was a nuke product and they experimented with vinyl. They actually made a couple of vinyl holsters. I want to show you one of those too. Again, eye candy because you're in the house with nothing but re-runs to watch.

A Closer look at this Vinyl Holster

A Closer look at this Vinyl Holster

This is a party leader PPK holster made of vinyl. The guy who actually sold this to me said I think it's a fake vinyl. I've actually seen three or four of these. I know Rock Island Auctions sold a couple of them. Every one that I've seen is split across the top because see how this is closed never to be opened. If I open this it'll crack and fall off into two pieces I presume because this vinyl is very, very old, 80 years old or so. It was issued because if you look at the little hump, see the little hump back here, you can see that there was a PPK in it at one time. Also, there's a little hump right there, almost like a pimple, little hump there. That's from the magazine being in the magazine holder. You can tell that it held a PPK at one time. A vinyl party leader PPK holster. I wonder how many of you out there have ever seen one.

Like I said I've seen four, this is the only one I've ever seen that is completely intact but the problem is I can never open it. I guess if I wanted to I could get a hairdryer, warm it up and try to open it but I'm not going to. This is kept under glass because if I have it in my office, the first thing that somebody's going to do is walk in and open the lid and break it. So I keep it under glass. But that's to show you the vinyl holster that they were using back then. Now evidently it wasn't a great idea because they went back to leather. They only made a few of these and they said ehh, not a great idea. I've also seen vinyl white by the way for parades and things like that. But let's get back to this case because I have to show you the really cool part.

Now back to this Case that Walked In

Now back to this Case that Walked

So I've got the case and I'm like yeah I don't know, maybe it's real, maybe it's not. And then I open it up and surprise. There was not a gun in it, so it’s not that kind of surprise. But let me get really close to the camera, you can see the outline of the Walther PPK. You can see the safety down, also an indentation when the safety was not down. But if you look right here, yes your eyes do not to deceive you, there's the screw hole. That is a party leader eagle. So this had a party leader PPK grip on it, very, very rare. He did not get it with the gun as he said. So evidently somebody took the gun out and this was left in an office somewhere and I just assumed when the American soldiers came in they helped themself to this case with no gun. Let's look at the top of the lid too. I'm going to turn this over, I'm being very careful, turn this over and look at the...I mean seriously, how cool is that. It was worth getting up this morning wasn't it. Just to see this, this is so cool. I absolutely love it. Now, so what would have gone in it, I've done several videos on party leader PPKs but not to bore you, but could you look at one more?

Let’s look at one more Party Leader PPK

Lets look at one more Party Leader PPK (picture 1)

I'm going to take a look at what should go in here and put them all together on camera, just for you. So I pulled this one from the safe. This is the box. If you watch my videos you know that's the common box. It has the green printed label, a green printed label numbered on the side. You can see it's numbered, it will be printed and it comes, set that down gently, it comes with the manual. This manual by the way is dated 4 39. Okay, the manual is dated 4 39, so we know this kit was put together in 1939. This is the cleaning rod, original cleaning rod. We've talked before about the tin, this is the tin. It has oil… There's a picture of the factory on the tin and there's original oil cans… Oh what the heck, let's go ahead show you. The original oil can with the, what I called, horsehair before and got in trouble. It's not horsehair, it's something else. But yeah they put that in the cleaning rod and clean the boar but that was the original. Even the original cellophane, I don't even take it apart. Everything…basically unissued conditions.

The Grand Finale! Get Your Popcorn Ready.

The Grand Finale Get Your Popcorn Ready

The grand finale would be the gun itself. And so you can see this is a party leader grip Walther PPK. Now let's put it together. Here's the case, oh you know what, it doesn't fit by the way, it doesn't fit. See there's no cut-out for the finger extensions, see the finger extension, no cut. You can tell this is live TV because I just made a mistake. So it does fit like that and the extra mag goes right here. So that's how it sat on somebody's desk for many, many years before it came home to the United States. And you can see the party leader indentation in the felt and you can see the party leader grip in the felt. Very, very cool find.
